    The only problem there is that the spammer really doesn't give a damn about the site. He only cares about what he is marketing in his spam. Put the site down & you don't hurt the spammer a bit.
I remember when the site was re-vamped or whatever, passwords & valid emails were required. That seems to have fallen by the wayside. That would be the easiest way to control spam, deny posting access via passwords.
